A new year has arrived and we are all filled with hope for the forthcoming year. We have moved to our new site and this is progressing really well. The polytunnel has been a great asset and has provided us with the perfect environment to raise our own flowers for all the planters, pots and gardens.
It was unfortunate that the yearly Fife Council event of Beautiful Fife had to be cancelled due to COVID as the villages were all looking superb in their floral displays.
The raised beds have very successful and we have produced a great variety of vegetables. The plans are being made for this year to repeat and hopefully exceed last years success.
We thank EVERYONE for all their efforts which were outstanding and the villages were all looking their very best.

TWO Cowden-Gelly community groups are celebrating after they were handed a share of funding from the National Lottery.

Crossgates Greenfingers and the Benarty Community Forum are amongst 137 local community, sports and arts groups from across Scotland who have been handed a slice of £1,245,835 in grants from its 'Awards for All' scheme.

The awards, which are of 21 that have been made across Fife and Tayside to the tune of £144,481, have been made to mark the 25th anniversary since the National Lottery's launch on November 19 1994
Since then, more than £3.1 billion has been invested into more than 64,000 good causes in Scotland thanks to lottery players, and Crossgates Greenfingers and Benarty Community Forum have received awards of £9,500 and £9,871 respectively.

Crossgates Greenfingers, who this year received a gold award from Beautiful Fife for a fourth successive year, as well as accolades for the best large village and community involvement, are to work in partnership with Crossgates Community Woodland to install a large polytunnel on land owned by the latter.
It will allow the groups to grow plants for its award-winning village displays, and act as a meeting place.

Today Tesco Store at Dulloch have come up trumps for Crossgates Green Fingers Group. One of our members was shopping for Christmas Selection Boxes at this store with the hope of buying a number them to give away to the children in our village. Sadly she was only allowed to purchase 10 Selection Boxes at the reduced price. On further enquiries after speaking to Fiona, the duty manager, Cynthia was allowed to purchase the full amount required, 250 in total AND was given another 10 free. 25. Aug, 2015

It's been eight years since Crossgates Green Fingers group was established with three local woman hoping to cheer the village up with some flowers and tubs ..there have been many projects over the years following on from the opening of the community garden ..and the group now ranges from between ten to fifteen, with folk opting in and out as life dictates ..

We are always looking for volunteers to help with areas and water tubs and of course we are always looking for donations - sponsorship or fundraising ideas as every little bit helps - and as the years go by, it becomes more difficult to access grants and funds which is what we rely on to operate.

Next year we want to grow more pollinator plants around the village - and would like to encourage more bees

We would like to work with the primary school on a Bee project.

Encourage villagers to have a lavender pot on their window scill.

Have a bee rockery.

Have a Best Bee competition ( bees on sticks rather than scarecrows).

And become more self sufficient by having irrigation and heating systems in our poly tunnel so that we can utilise this more efficiently and grow more of our plants from seed.

A few years ago Crossgates Green Fingers  brought a Xmas tree and Santa back to the village. This was the first tree that had been in the village for about 21 years .. The group fundraisers did events throughout the year in order to raise cash so that Santa could give a selection box to the local children.

Last year we gave out around 200 free selection boxes .. This isn't a council funded project so if you have any suggestions about fundraising - would like to donate or sponsor - or even volunteer your time for a few hours here and there then we would welcome suggestions, comments or cash :)

Cheques should be made to Crossgates Green Fingers ..
